Account Management | All About Managing Teams
We introduced account management a week back. This change brought about a seamless interaction between the sandbox testing environment and the live account, but most importantly, it introduced the idea of Teams.
Teams are fundamental to collaboration.
Developers on our platform can now work collectively on one application, without having to share account credentials.
Here are a couple of features to get you started on teams.
Creating a new team
By default, every account holder is the owner of one team. If you wish to add further separation, for example, you have a number of people working in a different country, then like shown below, you can add a new team specific to each country, running their own apps
As you can see above, I have created a new team and named it Team Malawi. This now allows me to add members to that team who are working on a solution to be used in Malawi
Adding members to a team
As mentioned in the previous article, you can add team members and give them different access levels. This protects you and your applications, because you can control what each member in your team can do.
- Owner: This is the user who owns the account and has created the application. This user has the ability to modify all values.
- Admin: This user has all the same rights as the owner, but the distinction is that they do not own the application.
- Write: This user is allowed to change values of the application other than the API key and balance notification settings
- Read: This user is not allowed to change values of the application
To add a team member to work on an app with you, type in their email address and they will receive the invite. Obviously, they also need to have an Africa’s Talking account.
Adding apps
Apps exist within teams. An app consumes our API services and you can see how it performs from the dashboards provided. As illustrated below, I have created a new app in Team Malawi. As an example, you can name the app according to the services it will consume.
Moving apps
You can move an app from one team to another, so long as you own both teams. This new app will be accessible to team members in the destination team.
Deleting Teams
You can delete a team if it has served its purpose, however as illustrated, you can ONLY delete a team if it has no applications.
This is what you can do now with teams. We will continue to innovate around his and add further functionality over time.
